Clean Transportation Leader John Boesel Joins CSI Advisory Board

June 25, 2026, – Livermore, CA – Coulomb Solutions Inc. (CSI) today announced that John Boesel, one of the most influential figures in the U.S. clean transportation and commercial vehicle electrification industry, will join its Advisory Board. Mr. Boesel spent more than three decades helping build the advanced transportation sector through CALSTART, an industry building national nonprofit organization focused on accelerating clean transportation technologies.

Before joining CALSTART in 1993, Mr. Boesel worked as a legislative aide to California Assemblyman—and later Congressman—Sam Farr. After working in the legislature, and getting his MBA, Boesel worked as a commercial banker for Wells Fargo in its San Francisco headquarters.

In 1993, Boesel joined CALSTART as the first Vice President of Programs. In 2001, he became the organization’s second CEO. Under his leadership, CALSTART grew from a little-known California organization of about 15 employees into a national clean transportation leader with more than 200 staff and over 200 member companies. His accomplishments include helping build the U.S. zero-emission truck and bus industry, advancing clean transportation policies and incentive programs with regulators and industry, launching the global Drive to Zero initiative, and overseeing more than $1 billion in zero-emission vehicle incentive programs with agencies such as the California Air Resources Board. Mr. Boesel earned a B.A. from the University of California, Davis, and an MBA from the Haas School of Business.

In September 2025, CALSTART announced that Boesel would retire as President and CEO after approximately 33 years with the organization and 24 years as CEO. Boesel stayed with the organization through December 31 to support the transition to and onboarding of the new CEO.

Boesel currently serves on the Advisory Boards of both the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies and the Statewide University of California Institute of Transportation Studies.

“We are privileged to welcome John Boesel to our Advisory Board,” said David Mazaika, CEO of Coulomb Solutions Inc. “John has been one of the most prominent architects behind the policies that have helped drive the adoption of electric trucks, buses, and other zero-emission commercial vehicles across North America. His deep experience and industry connections with OEMs, fleets, technology companies, and regulators will be a tremendous asset to CSI’s growth.”

“I’m honored to join CSI’s Advisory Board,” said Mr. Boesel. “CSI has led in electrification, developing solutions that advance EV adoption—from commercial vehicle battery systems to transportable mobile energy storage that addresses infrastructure constraints. I am particularly excited that CSI will have a full line of UL certified mobile Battery Energy Storage Systems from 233 kWh to 2.3 MWh. The company continues to help OEMs and fleets electrify cost-effectively while lowering total cost of ownership. I look forward to supporting CSI’s next phase of growth by helping OEMs, fleets, and regulators better understand its value.”
